What you need to know about Instagram in 2022

Time for an Instagram update! As we all know, social media is always changing. At HDM we are constantly staying up to date with trends and paying attention to changes these platforms are making. So without further ado, here is what you need to know about Instagram in 2022.

The best time to post on Instagram

One question we always hear is “when should I post on Instagram?” The answer might be different than you think! Recent studies have shown that the best time to post is early in the morning before 9am. This is actually different from data from previous years, as it was believed you are supposed to post when the most people are online. However, since there is the most content being posted between 9am to 1pm, which means that the market becomes oversaturated and people are actually less likely to see your content. By posting earlier, you are also making sure that you pop up on people’s first scroll of the day.

What’s up with Hashtags?

While hashtags are still incredibly important, the mentality on them has shifted over the years. Many people used to heavily focus on maximizing the number of hashtags in their captions, as it was the only way to increase your visibility on Instagram. However, this has changed and now Instagram can also analyze text in captions and determine what your content is all about. This algorithm allows your content to be seen by people who are interested in your market, without them even searching for hashtags. By combining strategic captions and hashtags, you have more opportunities for your content to be seen by potential customers.

Post lifespan

We highly recommend that our clients actively post on Instagram, not only because of its popularity, but also because posts have long “lifespans” on there as well. Of course, your posts will always remain on your page for people to see, but there is a specific timeframe that people generally interact with a post after it is published. Your Instagram post is most likely to be seen within 48 hours of posting, which is much longer than other competitors that are only a few hours or even minutes. This is important to consider when developing your marketing plan.
